Who Made the History?

Today was International Women's Day. So what. Big deal.

Seriously, it's fine, I don't really pay attention to these proclaimed 'days' anymore. Well, except last Friday. That was national Oreo Day. That is a big deal.

Women want their recognition for their accomplishments and their contributions to history. Really? What part of history? These modern women? Are you kidding me?

Modern women wanted equality with men, wanted to be our 'equal' and be considered on the same levels as us men. Fine. Then you don't get women's history month, women's day or anything else. Why is it the modern women feel the constant, incessant need to be validated? By everyone else? Why can't you stand on your accomplishments, be proud simply of a job well done and the simple act of making a contribution?

Women have certainly contributed to our collective history, no one can dispute that. Madam Curie, Mother Theresa, Susan Anthony, Rosa Parks, the women of NASA, and on and on. But the difference is they contributed and were humble yet proud and stood on their accomplishments. The sum was greater than the parts.

No more. With social media, women feel the need to have validation, recognition and tribute for simply being born of a gender. Perhaps it's penis envy, Daddy issues or some other mental issue. Perhaps it's just a part of the greater societal problem that every single person feels they simply must be recognized and rewarded, if nothing else than for their mere existence on this planet.

Who wrote history? The giants that we stand upon the shoulders of. They recognized the same of those that got them to the place they were. Humble recognition of hard work and satisfaction of a contribution to the world.

We need to quit looking around for appreciation and start looking back to see who we can bring up.

Let's write a great version of our history.
